Bird Hide. With its focus on the back garden and with views tucked snugly into the trees, this new addition allows its bird watching owners all day connection with the garden and its passing flying occupants. Retaining the original house was a given considering the long history and connection the owners have with the property. By pulling the living spaces out of the front of the existing building and redefining them to the north and rear of the property, even though the existing house has been retained, it has been given a new life. Retaining and re-imagining existing buildings is a fundamental way to reduce the carbon footprint of a building project, retain the history of the streetscape and potentially retain connection to a place.
