Passive House

Baker Drofenik Architects have built to Passive House standards and can use the Passive House Program to achieve very low energy buildings. Sarah has completed the Passive House Designer Course and is currently going through the process of studying for certification.

For a building to be considered a Passive House, it must meet the following criteria:

     1. The Space Heating Energy Demand / Cooling energy Demand is limited

     2. The Renewable Primary Energy Demand for all appliances is understood and controlled

     3. Airtightness is understood and controlled

     4. Thermal comfort must be met for all living areas during winter and summer

This is achieved through the 5 Passive House principles

     -  Thermal bridge free design

     -  Superior windows

     -  Ventilation with heat recovery

     -  Quality insulation

     -  Airtight construction.
