North Fitzroy House
Additions to an existing solid brick heritage listed house in North Fitzroy. Due to its size and orientation the existing two storey building has little access to natural light. The new living spaces that were built were designed to capture sun and air, and to create a connection to the outdoors. Materials are typically FSC or GECA certified, finishes are natural or low VOC.
Energy
- low energy light fittings were selected – compact fluorescent and low energy globes
- installation of hydronic heating

- collection of rain water for use in the garden
- installation of a solar hot water system
- low water usage appliances chosen
Materials
- cypress for all in ground timber
- low VOC paints
- low VOC timber floor finishes
- reverse brick veneer construction for thermal mass, thermal mass assists passive heating and cooling
- local products were chosen where possible
